Ludovico Einaudi is one of the most famous Italian classical artists, even among the general public. A musician capable of composing music as elegant as it is immediate, and exciting even for those who chew little of classical music. Let’s go and discover together some curiosities about the career and private life of this son and grandson of art, in a certain sense.

Ludovico Maria Enrico Einaudi was born in Turin on November 23, 1955, under the sign of Sagittarius. Son of the publisher Giulio Einaudi and Renata Aldrovandi, he acquired a passion for music and the piano from his mother.

He began his career not really in the world of classical music, but as a jazz rock musician, entering the Venegoni & Co. complex, with which he recorded two albums: Rumore rosso and Sarabanda.

After graduating from the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan and specializing with Luciano Berio, he began his career as a classical musician composing orchestral and chamber works performed in important stages such as the Teatro alla Scala and the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.

He worked for years in the theater and in the mid-nineties he appeared in the world of cinema as a composer of soundtracks. However, the great success at the mainstream level did not come thanks to the world of cinema, but to the album The Waves of 1996, a cycle of ballads inspired by the novel of the same name by Virginia Woolf. This is the audio of Le onde:

On the strength of this success, in the 2000s it was confirmed with records such as I Giorni and Una Morning. On a commercial level, it literally ‘exploded’ in Italy with Divenire, a disc of over 300,000 copies. This work is based in particular on the pieces Divenire, Primavera and Svanire, inspired by three paintings by Segantini: Life, Nature and Death.

Among the most important works of more recent years we should mention the unpublished Elegy for the Arctic of 2016 played in the ice of the Arctic Ocean, in front of the Wahlenbergerbreen ice, not far from the Norwegian Svalbard Islands. An extraordinary event organized by Greenpeace.

What does Ludovico Einaudi do today? He continues to be a very active composer, and in 2019 he presented the Seven-Day Walking project, consisting of seven albums released on a monthly basis for seven months in a row. A mammoth project that confirmed his status as a hugely talented artist.

Ludovico Einaudi was married to Anna De Carlo, sister of the writer Andrea De Carlo. From their relationship were born the children Leonardo and Jessica.

His current partner is Paola Dallolio, mother of his third child, Lara, born in 2010.
