LP 1975: 'STILL CRAZY AFTER ALL THESE YEARS' (Paul Simon)

On October 25, 1975, 'Still Crazy After All These Years' was published, Paul Simon's third solo studio work, which reached No. 1 on the Billboard album charts in December of that year. He counted on the recording with a series of magnificent New York jazz rock session musicians such as Michael Brecker, Steve Gadd, Tony Levin, Leon Pendarvis, Richard Tee, David Sanborn, Phil Woods, Toots Thielemans and voices such as those of Patti Austin, Phoebe Snow, Valerie Simpson and the Jessy Dixon Singers. Four of the album's songs were a top 40 hit on the Hot 100: the title track 'Still crazy after all these years', 'Gone at last', '50 ways to leave your lover' and 'My little town'.

The latter was top 10 and the first collaboration with Garfunkel since their separation in 1970. Art also published it on his album 'Breakaway'. '50 Ways to Leave Your Lover' went to No. 1 (the only one Paul Simon obtained in his entire solo career) and a gold record. Also in France with a number 2 it was his best positioned song on the charts. The album won two Grammy Awards in 1976 for Album of the Year and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. At the awards ceremony, Simon, upon collecting the trophy, joked that he especially thanked Stevie Wonder (he had won in the two previous editions) for not having released an album that year, because if so he would not have had a chance. In fact, the following year, Wonder won the Grammy again with 'Songs in the Key of Life'.
