Personnel:
For his Luck and Strange tour and the Live at the Circus Maximus performances, David Gilmour deliberately assembled a fresh touring lineup. Seeking to move away from musicians who stuck "slavishly to the original records," he chose a group of highly creative and adaptive players to give the songs a different life on stage.
The full backing band features a mix of veteran rock royalty, family, and rising talent:
Main Instrumentalists
Guy Pratt (Bass & Backing Vocals) – Gilmour’s long-time musical foil, Pratt has been playing bass for Pink Floyd and David Gilmour since 1987. During this show, he shares co-lead vocals on the soaring verses of "Comfortably Numb".
Greg Phillinganes (Keyboards & Backing Vocals) – A legendary American session keyboardist and musical director famed for his extensive work with Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, and Stevie Wonder. He takes on the co-lead vocal duties for "Time".
Rob Gentry (Keyboards & Backing Vocals) – A highly sought-after multi-instrumentalist and collaborator who handles the stage-left synth textures alongside Phillinganes.
Adam Betts (Drums & Percussion) – An energetic powerhouse drummer best known for his work with the UK experimental math-rock outfit Three Trapped Tigers.
Ben Worsley (Guitars & Backing Vocals) – Serving as the second guitarist, Worsley anchors the rhythm parts and delivers beautiful co-lead vocals on "In Any Tongue" and "Time".
Vocalists & Featured Performers
- Romany Gilmour (Lead & Backing Vocals, Harp) – David's daughter originally planned to just sing one song, but she became a full touring member. She delivers the standout, emotional lead vocal performance and harp playing on "Between Two Points", and sings co-lead on "The Great Gig in the Sky".
- The Webb Sisters (Hattie & Charley Webb) (Backing Vocals, Harp, Ukulele) – The acclaimed British indie-folk duo, widely recognized for their years touring as Leonard Cohen's backing vocalists. They trade breathtaking vocal parts during "The Great Gig in the Sky".
- Louise Marshall (Backing Vocals & Piano) – A powerful, classically trained soul and jazz vocalist who has been a frequent collaborator on Gilmour's solo tours.

Gear and guitars David Gilmour prominently uses
For the Live at the Circus Maximus concerts in Rome, David Gilmour utilized a carefully selected rig that blended his most famous signature tones with entirely new textures. Since auctioning off his legendary original "Black Strat" for charity in 2019, his rig has evolved significantly to accommodate the needs of his latest tour.
Prominent Guitars
- The "Black Cat" Fender Stratocaster: Gilmour's new primary stage guitar. This black Fender NOS Signature Stratocaster serves as a forensic replica and spiritual replacement for his original Black Strat. It was used heavily throughout the Rome nights for massive solos like "Comfortably Numb", "Time", "Sorrow", and "Scattered". (Notably, its strap was once owned by Jimi Hendrix!)
- 1950s Gretsch Duo Jet: Prominently featured on the title track "Luck and Strange". Gilmour has owned this vintage black guitar since the mid-1970s, famously using it during his 2007 barn jams.
- Gibson ES-335: A relatively new addition to Gilmour's collection, used during "Dark and Velvet Nights". He added this hollowbody specifically to inject a distinctly different, warm, and woodier tone into his repertoire.
- Gibson Les Paul Goldtop: Equipped with P-90 pickups, Gilmour wields this guitar to deliver the punchy rhythm and solos for "The Piper’s Call".
- Martin D-35 Acoustic: The backbone of his acoustic arrangements, relied upon for the iconic intros and rhythms of "Wish You Were Here" and "High Hopes". [1]
- Fender & Jedson Lap Steel Guitars: Placed on stands on stage, Gilmour uses these slide guitars to create ambient swells and crying solos during "Vita Brevis", "The Great Gig In The Sky", and the soaring slide climax of "High Hopes". [1]
Amplifiers
- 1974 Hiwatt DR103 Heads: Gilmour remains faithful to his classic powerhouse amplification setup, running through his original, well-loved 1974 Hiwatt 100W tube heads.
- WEM 4x12 Cabinets: The Hiwatt heads drive his signature WEM speaker cabinets equipped with specialized Fane Crescendo speakers, providing his trademark high-headroom, pristine clean tones.
- Yamaha RA200 Rotary Cabinet: Used alongside his main amps to introduce a swirling, lush modulation effect most audible on tracks like "Sorrow" and "Scattered".
Pedalboard & Effects
Gilmour’s pedal setup for the 2024 tour was meticulously designed to recreate studio textures live on stage:
- Fuzz & Distortion: An Electro-Harmonix Ram’s Head Big Muff and a Tube Driver provide the heavy, singing sustain needed for his iconic stadium guitar solos.
- Modulation: A vintage 1976/77 Electro-Harmonix Electric Mistress flanger gives his tone that unmistakable, spacious Pink Floyd chorus-flange shimmer.
