That Certain Feeling is a song by George Gershwin from the musical Tip-Toes (1925) with lyrics by Ira Gershwin. The song was first sung in a duet by Queenie Smith and Allen Kearns at its Washington premiere on November 24, 1925.[1] The song is also sung by Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron in the 1951 film An American In Paris. Many jazz artists have covered the song.
Particularities
It is a sentimental declaration of love between the characters ‘Tip-Toes’ Kaye and Steve.
An important effect in the music and lyrics is the eighth rest followed by the eighth note in the third measure and the seventh measure of the chorus (A part). If the rest is not observed, the effect is gone and the words have the same value:
The first time I met you.
I couldn’t forget you.
I’ve got what they call love, etc.
Should sound (and be sung) like:

(rest) I could not forget you
(rest) I’ve got what they call love, etc.
