Hiromi Uehara

A true musical phenomenon, Hiromi reached the general public when Chick Corea invited her to participate in their concerts at just 17 years old. She landed a record deal while she was still studying, and to this day, she is a global star.

Hiromi, pianist and composer, was born in Shizouka, Japan, in 1979. At the age of 6, she began playing the piano and studied composition at the Yamaha Music School. In 1999, she began her studies at the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

In 2003, she made her world debut, with the release of ‘Another Mind’ for the Telarc label, produced by Ahmad Jamal and Richard Evans. In 2007 she performed alongside legendary pianist and mentor Chick Corea in Tokyo. This performance was picked up on CHick Corea’s double album “Duet,” released in 2009 to great acclaim.

Hiromi Uehara has also collaborated with bassist Stanley Clarke on the album ‘Jazz in the Garden’ by the Staley Clarke Trio, along with drummer Lenny White.

In 2011, Hiromi joined The Stanley Clarke Band. The group’s self-titled album won the Best Contemporary Jazz Album category at the 53rd Grammy Awards ceremony. In 2011 she released the album ‘Voice’, in a trio format that included veteran bassist Anthony Jackson and drummer Simon Phillips. IN 2013, Hiromi releases her last album to date, ‘MOVE’ with the same formation as ‘Voice’. A conceptual album that she describes as “a day”, explaining “you wake up, go to work and then you relax. The album is a soundtrack for a day”.
