Norah Jones

Norah Jones was born in Brooklyn (New York), the daughter of Sue Jones, a concert promoter, and Ravi Shankar. Very soon, mother and daughter moved to Texas, where Norah spent her childhood.

His first contact with the jazz had in Dallas, to enter her teenage years in the Institute, Broker T. Washirable. In 1996 and 1997, and won a number of awards of Interpretation and composition to students. After concentrated in courses of piano jazz at the university of north Texas, until, in 1999, a friend convinced her to be devoted to the interpretation and the visual arts. From there his talents as a singer sensual and silky grew unceasingly. He attempted to return to school that fall, but the jazz clubs and cafés of Folk we threw a lot.

He began to compose, he was part of the combo Funk Fusion Wax Poetic, and finally set up his own group with bassist (and boyfriend of Norah) Lee Alezander, the guitarist and composer of Don’t Know Why, Jesse Harris and drummer Dan Rieser.

In October 2000, Jones and his group presented some models, the legendary jazz label, Blue Note. The direct listened to the models, and in 2001, they already had the contract, the record company was content with that only sold 100,000 copies. That whole year, Norah use it in playing live and work in the material that would compose his first album, Come away with me .

Come away with me is finally released in February 2002, it obtained good sales and reviews in the United States, also became platinum in the Netherlands, Australia, Portugal and Hong Kong; double platinum in Great Britain, Ireland, and Singapore; and quintuple platinum in New Zealand. The total number of sales around the world has exceeded 13 million copies. It was the great winner of the Grammys delivered in 2003.


In 2004, back with a new album Feels like home , with great collaborations.

Her subsequent studio albums —Not Too Late (2007), and The Fall (2009)— all gained platinum status, selling over a million copies each. They were also generally well received by critics. Jones’s fifth studio album, Little Broken Hearts, was released on April 27, 2012; her sixth, Day Breaks, was released on October 7, 2016.

Her seventh studio album, Pick Me Up Off the Floor, was released on June 12, 2020. Jones made her feature film debut as an actress in My Blueberry Nights, which was released in 2007 and was directed by Wong Kar-Wai.

Jones is the daughter of Indian sitarist and composer Ravi Shankar and concert producer Sue Jones, and is the half-sister of fellow musicians Anoushka Shankar and Shubhendra Shankar.
