John Williams
Celebrated composer John Williams reverses retirement
The American composer, winner of 5 Oscars, does not close doors on his return to cinema after the news that spoke of his retirement.
The composer John Williams does not close doors on his return to the cinema, after certain news in which there was talk of his retirement from the big screen. “I don’t really like big pronouncements, firm statements behind closed doors,” Williams said about his retirement. Furthermore, he added: “If a film appeared that interested me a lot, with a schedule that I could face, I wouldn’t rule anything out ,” he declared in his interview with The Times , leaving the door open to the future.
John Williams is a renowned composer with a long career and has been the author of the music that has accompanied important titles on the big screen. He currently wants to compose for his concerts and work less on film soundtracks. Furthermore, he assured The Times that his agenda is full in 2024 and that he even already has a confirmed date in Berlin for 2025.
He took advantage of the interview to reflect on the commercial world and classical music: ” Thirty or forty years ago, when I brought a film music program to one of our big orchestras, there could be condescension. I understood it; I understand the value of things done in the commercial world and their place in the art world. But now things are different. I would love to go back in 50 years and see what cinema is contributing to the development of new music, because I think young composers “They will want to work on both ,” Williams said about the situation in both areas.
Finally, the American composer, author of the soundtracks for ‘ Jaws ‘, ‘ Star Wars ‘, ‘ Schindler’s List ‘ and ‘ Harry Potter ‘, among others, ended up saying in the interview: “Cinema forces you to adapt your style to each project that is presented: ‘ Home Alone ‘ cannot have the same language as ‘ Saving Private Ryan ‘ or ‘ Jurassic Park ‘”, and he ended up adding about his style: “Somewhere in all my scores there must be something about me. But I leave that to others to identify . “
Great recognition for the greatest
At 91 years old, John Williams is the composer with the most nominations today after having composed the soundtracks of great titles and has 5 Academy Award statuettes in his showcase for it.
