Léon Orthel – Sonatina No. 3
Composer: Léon Orthel (4 October 1905 — 6 September 1985) – Performer: Kees Wieringa – Year of recording: 2000 Sonatina No. 3 for piano, Op. 28, written in 1924.
00:00 – I. Allegro 03:11 – II. Andantino 05:15 – III. Capriccietto {Allegretto}
Possibly because of Willem Pijper’s appreciation for the Sonatina-form, it was frequently used (especially in The Netherlands) by composers who were active in the early twentieth century. Léon Orthel, who actually had nothing to do with the school of Pijper, composed quite a few pieces in the genre, like this Sonatina No. 3, a small but wonderful piece for piano. The sonatina is dedicated: “Voor Tineke Zeevenhooven”.
