The American guitarist, Pat Martino (Philadelphia, August 25, 1944 – Ibidem, November 1, 2021), approached music through his father’s record collection, a singer, instilled in him a love for music and When he had the opportunity, he gave him his first guitar and he took his first music classes with it. At the age of fifteen he made some first appearances in rhythm and blues groups and then had the good fortune to join the saxophonist Sonny Stitt’s group, which also included Lloyd Price.

In 1966 he signed a six-month contract with John Handy and the following year he recorded his first album under his name for the Prestige label, which he titled: “The Man.” They played on that magnificent presentation album, the organist, Trudy Pitts; flutist Danny Turner; drummer Mitch Finey and Vance Anderson on percussion.

From Prestige, Pat Martino moved to the “Original Classics” label where in the following four years he recorded as many albums, generally of great quality. Influenced by maestro Wes Montgomery, Martino has exceptional technique and a great sense of swing. In 1972 he signed for the Muse label, a destination that he would almost never abandon and where he recorded most of his albums between 1972 and 1996.
