Who is Ron Carter?
Born in a family of musicians, (Ron Carter May 4, 1937, Ferndale, Michigan, United States) studied numerous instruments but chose the double bass as his inseparable companion. His career is full of excellent and fruitful collaborations with numerous jazz teachers: Bill Evans, Cannonball Adderley, Randy Weston or composer Jaki Byard. His success and popularity came to him when he was part between 1963 and 1968 of the exceptional quintet of Miles Davis, forming the rhythmic section next to the pianist, Herbie Hancock, and the drums, Tony Williams, in one of those historical formations of jazz.
After leaving the group of Miles, he undertook a personal career that has allowed him Washington, George Benson, or El himself, Lionel Hampton. A fundamental step in his career – aim apart from his participation in the thousands of thousands – is his participation in the VSOP group, which resumed the musical ideas of the thousands of thousands and that formed it with Freddie Hubbard, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock or Tony Williams.
It is also remarkable is his participation in the “Great Jazz Trio” with Hancock and Williams again and the impressive quartet with Sonny Rollins, to the sax, McCoy Tyner to the piano and the foster to the battery, becoming this formation in one of the most prolific of the last decades. Ron Carter is an exceptional bassist, endowed with a net, impeccable and safe sound. He knows how to elaborate music with elegance, freshness and imagination with a stubborn originality and a fair dose of sobriety. In short, a great musician.
