Happy birthday, Thom Yorke, #botd in 1968
Today is the 57th birthday of the British musician born in Wellinborough (England) Thom Yorke, singer and main songwriter of the alternative rock group Radiohead. ‘Few singers of the nineties have a voice as personal and difficult to forget as Thom Yorke’s, when his group became one of the most important bands of the 21st century, thanks to his career developing an unpredictable and challenging rock’. The fact is that the songs of Thom – who decided to be a musician at the age of seven after seeing Brian May perform with Queen on TV – have become popular culture of the late twentieth century, with songs such as ‘Creep’ (1992), ‘My iron lung’ (1994), ‘High and dry’, ‘Just’ (1995), ‘Street spirit (Fade out)’, (1996), ‘Paranoid android’, ‘Karma police’ (1997) y ‘No surprises’ (1998).

They are dominated by themes such as urban existentialism, conflicts with technology (due to a car accident in which he was involved with his girlfriend, Thom Yorke has developed an intense hatred of cars), illness and love. His album ‘OK Computer’ in 1997 was their first No. 1 in the UK and the following ‘Kid A’, published in October 2000, was also published in the United States.

In the new millennium they continued to release successful albums on both sides of the Atlantic such as ‘Amnesiac’ (2001), ‘Hail To The Thief’ (2003) y ‘In Rainbows’ (2007) with hits like ‘Pyramid song’, ‘There , there’ (2001), ‘Go to sleep’,‘2+2=5’ (2003) y ‘Nude’ (2008). In February 2011 it was released ‘The King of Limbs’, the former who, after five consecutive No. 1 in England, stayed at No. 7. His most recent work was ‘A Moon Shaped Pool’ released May 2016.
In addition to his nine albums with Radiohead, Thom Yorke recorded a solo album, “The Eraser” in 2006. On the other hand, since the end of 2009, Thom has been part of a new supergroup called Atoms for Peace. It consists of Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, Radiohead producer Nigel Old.

In October 2018, “Suspiria” was released, the soundtrack for the horror film of the same name directed by Luca Guadagnino and in June 2019 his third solo album appeared: “Anima”.
He made a surprise stream at the Glastonbury Festival, in 2021, with his new band The Smile, formed with Jonny Greenwood and jazz drummer Tom Skinner, whose debut album, “A Light for Attracting Attention” appeared in May 2022. They then began a European tour as a promotion, and in January and October 2024 they released the albums “Wall of Eyes” and “Cutouts”.
