Katy Perry
Today is the 41st birthday of American singer Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, better known as Katy Perry, born in Santa Barbara (California), daughter of two evangelical pastors. It was precisely in the church’s gospel choir that he discovered his love for music. The desire to be a singer arose when he heard Queen: ‘When I first heard Freddie Mercury’s voice, it seemed to me that the sky was opening’

In 2001, she signed a contract with Label Hill Records, with whom she released her debut album, ‘Katy Hudson’, using her real name. Soon after, she adopted her mother’s maiden name to avoid confusion with actress Kate Hudson. After a couple of failed attempts to record a second album with Glen Ballard (the album was recorded and the promotional videos were recorded, but their release was cancelled), Katy is signed by Capitol Records, and her song ‘your so gay’ receives a great reception, although it is only published on the Internet.

The single ‘I kissed a girl’ and released as an advance to the album ‘One of the boys’, released in June 2008. It reaches No. 1 in several countries and its follow-up, ‘Hot’n’cold’, does not fare much worse. This last song is also recorded in a ‘sim’ version, for the famous video game ‘Sims 2’. After a third single, ‘Waking up in Vegas’, which managed to enter the American top 10, he recorded an ‘Unplugged’ for MTV and chained five consecutive singles that reached number 1 in dozens of countries: ‘California gurls’, ‘Teenage dream’, ‘Firework’, ‘E.T.’ and ‘Last Friday night’, all of them taken from the album ‘Teenage Dream’ (2010), also number 1 in many countries.

In October 2013 the album ‘Prism’ was released, whose advance single was ‘Roar’, followed by ‘Unconditionally’. In June 2014 she announced the creation of her own record label under Capitol Records: Metamorphosis Music and in 2015 Forbes magazine published that Perry was the female artist who generated the most income with a profit figure that exceeded 135 million dollars. In June 2017 ‘Witness’ appeared preceded by the singles ‘Chained to the rhythm’, ‘Bon appétit’ and ‘Swish swish’ and in August 2020 ‘Smile’ was released.
Her most recent installment was ‘143’ in September 2024.
