New LP 1973: ‘QUADROPHENIA’ (The Who)

On October 26, 1973, the sixth studio album by the British band The Who was released in the United Kingdom. It was a double album with 17 songs composed by Pete Townshend that made up his second rock opera: ‘Quadrophenia’ whose title came from a play on words with the terms ‘quadrophonic’, a novel recording technique at the time and ‘schizophrenia’ (schizophrenia) and which was intended to reflect the four personalities of Jimmy, the protagonist of the plot.
It took place in 1965 between Brighton and London and featured facts of English history and society seen from the perspective of a teenager. Considered one of the band’s best works, it was No. 2 on the English, Canadian and American charts. A film version was released in 1979, for which Townsend wrote three new songs.
‘YOUR SONG’ (1970) Elton John
On October 26, 1970, the second single taken from their self-titled debut album, ‘Take me to the pilot’, was released in the United States, whose B-side was occupied by the song ‘Your song’, composed and performed by Elton John on lyrics by Bernie Taupin. The song had already been recorded by the group Three Dog Night on their album ‘It Ain’t Easy’ in March 1970, but they did not release it as a single, respecting the author’s priority. ‘Your song’, despite being a B-side, was the favorite of the disc jockeys of the time and ended up being the first international top10 of John’s career. The following year it was released in the United Kingdom, this time as an A-side, and there it reached number 7.

In 1998, she was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame and is included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s list of ‘the songs that shaped rock and roll’. He has received numerous versions, including those of Rod Stewart, Lady Gaga and Ellie Goulding, as well as actors Ewan McGregor and Taron Egerton in the films ‘Moulin Rouge!’ (2001) and ‘Rocket Man’ (2019) respectively.
