LP 1988: ‘IF I SHOULD FALL FROM GRACE WITH GOD’ (The Pogues)
On January 18, 1988, the third album of the British celtic-punk band The Pogues, ‘If I Should Fall from Grace with God’, was released. This work in which the band added influences from Spanish and Middle Eastern folklore to their characteristic fusion of Irish folk and punk rock. With a more commercial approach than their previous two releases, it was the first album in which they used a full drum set and the last in which bassist Cait O’Riordan participated.
The LP included the Christmas hit ‘Fairytale of New York’, recorded with Kirsty MacColl, which was released a month earlier as a single and had been No. 2 in the UK charts. This helped the album reach No. 3 on the album charts to become the band’s best-selling album.
