LP 1969: ‘GOODBYE CREAM’ (Cream)
On February 5, 1969, the farewell album of the trio Cream formed by Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker was released, which had disbanded at the end of 1968. Initially intended as a double album containing an album with songs recorded in the studio and another with live songs from the farewell tour that began in October 1968, finally the lack of new material forced them to release a single album. Even so, three new songs were included, including Clapton’s ‘Badge’, in which a collaborator nicknamed ‘L’Angelo misterioso’ played second guitar, none other than George Harrison, whose arpeggio at the end of the song was unmistakable. The album was No. 1 in the United Kingdom and No. 2 in the United States.
Single 1986: ‘KISS’ (Prince)
On February 5, 1986, the single “Kiss” by musician and singer Prince was released. It began as an acoustic demo that the Minneapolis musician composed for the funk band”s debut album Mazarati. They provided funk arrangements and when Prince heard the result, he changed his mind and decided to record it himself, including it on his eighth album “Parade”. It was an international hit in the United States that remained at No. 1 on the Hot100 for two weeks and exceeded one million sales. In 1988 the British group Art of Noise recorded a version with Tom Jones on lead vocals that was top 5 in the United Kingdom and number 1 in New Zealand and Spain.
