LP 1968: ‘FLEETWOOD MAC’ (Fleetwood Mac)
On February 24, 1968, the debut album, also called ‘Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac’, by the British blues rock band led by guitarist Peter Green, was released. It contained eight original songs composed by Green and Jeremy Spencer and four versions of songs by Elmore James, Howlin’ Wolf and Robert Johnson. It was an unexpected success in the United Kingdom, peaking at number four on the English Albums Chart and remained on it for fifty-six consecutive weeks. In Green’s song ‘If I loved another woman’ there was a preview of the fusion of blues and Latin rhythms that he would later perfect with ‘Black magic woman’.
