Clifford Brown/Max Roach – Study in Brown (1955)
Study in Brown (EmArcy Records, 1955) is a Clifford Brown and Max Roach album. The album consists predominantly of originals by members of the band. The songs “Lands End”, by tenor saxophonist Harold Land, and “Sandu”, by Brown, have gone on to become jazz standards. The song “George’s Dilemma” is also known as “Ulcer Department”. Brown’s solo on “Cherokee” is among the most acclaimed solos in jazz.

Ornette Coleman – Tomorrow is the Question! (1959)
Tomorrow Is the Question!, subtitled The New Music of Ornette Coleman!, is the second album by American jazz musician Ornette Coleman, originally released in 1959 by Contemporary Records. It was Coleman’s last album for the label before he began a highly successful multi-album series for Atlantic Records in 1959.
As well as regular sideman Don Cherry on trumpet, the album features bassists Percy Heath and Red Mitchell, and drummer Shelly Manne.

Up at “Minton’s”, Vols. 1 & 2 are a pair of separate but related live albums by American jazz saxophonist Stanley Turrentine recorded on February 23, 1961 and released on Blue Note later that year. The quintet features rhythm section Grant Green, Horace Parlan, George Tucker, and Al Harewood.

Oliver Nelson – Blues and the Abstract Truth (1961)
The Blues and the Abstract Truth is an album by American composer and jazz saxophonist Oliver Nelson recorded in February 1961 for the Impulse! label. It remains Nelson’s most acclaimed album and features a lineup of notable musicians: Freddie Hubbard, Eric Dolphy (his second-to-last appearance on a Nelson album following a series of collaborations recorded for Prestige), Bill Evans (his only appearance with Nelson), Paul Chambers and Roy Haynes. Baritone saxophonist George Barrow does not take solos but remains a key feature in the subtle voicings of Nelson’s arrangements. The album is often noted for its unique ensemble arrangements and is frequently identified as a progenitor of Nelson’s move towards arranging later in his career.
