Single 1967: ‘ARNOLD LAYNE’ (Pink Floyd)
On March 10, 1967, the debut single of the British group Pink Floyd was released in the United Kingdom, after signing a contract with EMI. The song was composed by Syd Barrett, leader of the band at the time, and was not included on their first album, ‘The Piper at the Gates of Dawn’, although it does appear on later compilations of the group. The song was about a transvestite whose hobby was to steal women’s underwear from clotheslines in the neighbourhood and the song must not have been liked by Radio Londres who considered it “too far-fetched and inappropriate for a ‘normal’ audience.
Single 1969: ‘GOOD TIMES, BAD TIMES’ (Led Zeppelin)
On March 10, 1969, ‘Good times, bad times’ was released, the debut single of the British band Led Zeppelin with the opening track of their first album, in which the incredible work of John Bonham on drums and the sound (then novel) of Page’s guitar stand out, passed through a leslie effect (originally designed for a Hammond organ), an effect that would later be used again by Eric Clapton and George Harrison. On the B-side, ‘Communication breakdown’ was released, the only song by the band that was not missing from any of their shows.
