Single 1962: 'LOVE ME DO' (Beatles)
On October 5, 1962, the Beatles' first single, 'Love Me Do' featuring 'P.S. I love you' on side B. Written by Paul McCartney before they were called Beatles, it is sung as a duet by Paul and John and features a harmonica riff played by Lennon. Three versions of the song were recorded with different drummers: the first, with Pete Best, was recorded in June 1962. The second, which was released as a single, already featured Ringo on drumsticks and was recorded on September 4. The third and final one was recorded with Andy White, session drummer, a week later. In this version, which appears on the album 'Please Please Me', Ringo plays the tambourine.
The single reached number 17 on the charts in England and in the United States, published a year and a half later, on April 27, 1964, it was number one.

LP 1987: '...NOTHING LIKE THE SUN' (Sting)
On October 5, 1987, '...Nothing Like the Sun', the second solo album by British musician and composer Sting, was released on the A*M label. It contained twelve songs and was published in double format. Two events in Sting's life influenced most of the songs. One was the death of his mother in 1986 which contributed to the solemn tone of several songs; the other was his participation in Amnesty International's Conspiracy of Hope Tour, which took the musician to areas of Latin America devastated by civil wars and to personally meet victims of political repression. Inspired by the widows and daughters of missing Chileans who demonstrated asking for justice and dancing the cueca, Sting composed 'They dance alone', included a year later on a mini LP with songs from the album sung in Spanish and Portuguese: 'Nada como el sol'.
The album's biggest hit was 'We'll Be Together', which was top 10 on Billboard's Hot 100, followed by 'Be Still My Beating Heart', nominated for two Grammys. Another single taken from the album was successful in Europe, 'Englishman in New York', which three years later received a remix by Dutch DJ Ben Liebrand, also very popular in Europe. '...Nothing Like the Sun' was top 10 in the United States and No. 1 in the United Kingdom, also triumphing on charts in countries such as Japan, Italy, Spain and Norway. With over 18 million copies, it remains the best-selling album in Sting's discography.
