The Mozart Piano Sonata No. 16 in C major, K. 545 (famously known as the Sonata facile or Sonata semplice) features a unique and celebrated arrangement for two pianos by the Norwegian Romantic composer Edvard Grieg.

Rather than changing the original masterpiece, Grieg left the Piano I part exactly as Mozart wrote it. Instead, he added a completely new, rich Piano II accompaniment that introduces Romantic-era harmonies, textures, and dialogue against Mozart's classical lines.

Quick Breakdown of the Movements:

The arrangement preserves the structure of Mozart's original three-movement sonata:

  1. I. Allegro (4/4 time, famous opening theme)
  2. II. Andante (3/4 time, lyrical and expressive)
  3. III. Rondo: Allegretto (2/4 time, light and playful)

  1. I. Allegro (4/4 )
  2. II. Andante (3/4 )
  3. III. Rondo: Allegretto (2/4)
