Camille Saint-Saëns – Camille Saint-Saëns est un compositeur et pianiste français né en 1835. Il est l’un des musiciens les plus prolifiques de la seconde moitié du XIXe siècle. Opéras, musique de chambre, concertos pour pianos ou symphonies, il crée au cours d’une carrière remarquable de près de 80 ans des œuvres qui ont marqué l’évolution de la musique à l’aube du XXe siècle.
Né à Paris le 9 octobre 1835, Camille Saint-Saëns montre très vite des aptitudes exceptionnelles pour la musique. Il joue à l’âge de 11 ans un concerto pour piano de Mozart, puis entre au conservatoire à 13 ans pour y étudier l’orgue et la composition. Très vite, il suscite l’admiration de grands compositeurs comme Berlioz ou Liszt, avec qui il se lie d’amitié jusqu’à la fin de sa vie.
En 1871, il crée la Société nationale de musique, dont l’objectif est double : permettre à de jeunes compositeurs français de présenter leurs œuvres au public, mais aussi encourager la création française pour affronter la tempête germanique, dominante en Europe à la suite de la guerre de 1870.
La consécration artistique de Saint-Saëns aura lieu à partir de la fin des années 1870, notamment grâce à son opéra “Samson et Dalila” (composé 1878), ou “le Carnaval des Animaux” (1886).
Élu à l’académie des Beaux-Arts en 1881, il est également l’auteur de la première bande originale de film en 1908, pour “L’assassinat du Duc de Guise”. Camille Saint-Saëns meurt à l’âge de 86 ans à Alger, le 16 décembre 1921.

Camille Saint-Saëns est également le tout premier compositeur célèbre et respecté à composer une musique de film (L’Assassinat du duc de Guise, en 1908). Il meurt le 16 décembre 1929 à Alger.
