Boogie Woogie

The Boogie Woogie was born in Texas, United States, during the 1870s. Its evolution over time is linked to the expansion and development of the country’s railway circuits. Being built by black slaves located in the southern United States, this style of music is related to the Bantu language. Hence, its name and the influence of its dances and musical genre.

Although it is not known exactly, it is believed that it was the sounds of the locomotives that inspired the black pianists of the time. These rhythms were joined by such recognized styles as blues, jazz, ragtime and of course, rock and roll.

The maximum splendor of this musical genre was during the decades of the 20s and 30s of the 20th century. Its great success among the public was broken with the arrival of the great crisis of the Crack of 29. The strike in the industry completely changed the schemes, as well as the tastes and needs of music lovers.

Albert Ammons, Katie Webster, Pete Johnson and Pinetop Perkins are some of the best Boogie Woogie blues and piano artists. They were benchmarks in the evolution of this musical genre that, to this day, is still alive and latent in the history of music.

In addition to the musical genre, a Boogie Woogie dance also emerged. Of course, somewhat later than the style of music and without much relation to it.

The Boogie Woogie dance has many characteristics in common with the Swing. For the most part, they share movements, exchanges of positions and that energetic way of dancing.

Like the Boogie Woogie on the piano, this dance became fashionable just before the great economic crisis within the field of black music in the United States.

For years, it became almost an unknown style for dancers and dance amateurs. The new currents and that passion for recovering old trends have made it reappear among dance academies. Without a doubt, a fun dance to have a good time with your partner.
